In the 1921 FA Cup Final Tottenham Hotspur beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0. The Tottenham captain was former St Albans City half-back Arthur Grimsdell while leading the Wolves attack was George Edmonds who had scored 62 times in 65 games for St Albans

13th March 1926 City, at Middlesbrough’s Ayresome Park, play in front of their largest crowd as 20,380 see Stockton win in the semi final of the Amateur Cup

All time leading goalscorer Wilfred (Billy) Minter played for the club throughout the 1920’s, he scored 356 goals in 362 appearances. He is one of five players to have played for the England Amateur side whilst with St Albans City

22nd November 1922 Minter scores all seven goals to set the record tally by an individual player on the losing side in an FA Cup tie as City go down 8-7 away to Dulwich Hamlet

1954-55 Isthmian League runners up

1960 Railway sleepers at Clarence Park replaced by concrete terracing

1963 Floodlights installed, Charlton Athletic partake in the official switching on

1969-70 Amateur Cup semi finalists for a fourth time

1972 John Mitchell is sold to Fulham for £500. Three years later his two goals in the FA Cup semi final take the London club to Wembley

1973-74 Relegated from Isthmian League Premier Division

1982-83 Relegated from Isthmian League Division One

1983-84 With John Mitchell now as manager promoted to Isthmian League Division One

1985-86 Promoted to Isthmian League Premier Division

1990 defender Dean Austin sold to Southend United. His subsequent move to Tottenham Hotspur earns St Albans City a club record transfer fee of approximately £92,500

1992-93 Isthmian League runners up

1994-95 Amateur England international Phil Wood plays the last of his club record 900games

1998-99 FA Trophy semi finalists. Club holds the unique non-league record of making more semi final appearances (five) in national knock out competitions without going on to play in the final than any other club

2004 City captain Lee Clarke played for the Northern Ireland Under 21 side

2004-05 Founder members of Conference South

2005-06 Promoted to Conference National

2006-07 Relegated after just one season in Conference National. Average attendance 1,146, the clubs highest for many decades

2010-11 Relegated from Conference South

2011-12 First season in Southern Leaguethe fourth time this season saw out the closing stages in some comfort with neither keeper being extended.
