Hertfordshire Schools U18s football team travelled to Newport in South Wales and returned triumphant after beating Gwent 2-1 in the quarter finals of the ESFA Inter County National Cup on Friday 13 January. The team coached by Andrew Cracknell of Sandringham School featured four players from St Albans City’s successful Midweek Youth side namely Laurie Blow (Beaumont School), Elliot Bailey (Sandringham), Stuart Henderson and Laurence Wroe (both Parmiters), plus Jack McNamara (Marlborough). After victories over Nottinghamshire (4-1) and Bedfordshire (4-3) in the previous rounds the team came from a goal behind to beat Gwent, making the gruelling 7 hour return journey more than worthwhile. Hertfordshire U18s will face either Essex, Northumberland/Humberside or Merseyside/Lancashire in the semi-final which is drawn on 23rd January. |
