Saints not so mad as Hatters triumph

City, still smarting from Saturday’s drubbing, gave a markedly improved performance on Monday when going down 2-0 to a strong Luton Town side at a warm Clarence Park.

A repeat of the mauling dished out by Barnet appeared remote from early on as City, aided by a couple of excellent Nick Jupp saves, limited the number of scoring opportunities for the Hatters.

Unfortunately though, the Saints too were kept at arm’s length in some comfort by Luton although Chris Henry went close three times in the closing minutes.

The match was part of a long running agreement by Luton to visit the Park after signing City duo Godfrey Poku and Jonathan O’Donnell more than two years ago.

Poku has since left Kenilworth Road but ‘JJ’ was in good form and but for the thickness of an upright would have marked his return with a spectacular goal. Luton's scorers were Scott Rendell and Stuart Fleetwood.

St Albans City are next in action on Saturday when we visit Enfield at Goldsdown Road, Brimsdown. Kick off is at 3pm.
