Gray celebrates

City responded to a recent disappointing run with a resounding 3-0 Hertfordshire derby win over Hitchin Town at Top Field.

Paul Furlong gave Saints the lead in the 20th minute with a crisp left-footed finish to settle nerves. Newly installed skipper James Gray then capped a towering performance with two fine finishes just before half time, volleying home a corner before heading in Ryan Watts's free kick.

Saints were content to contain and counter-attack in the second half, with Micah Hyde enjoying an excellent debut in controlling midfield to bring a welcome clean sheet and second away Evo-Stik Southern Premier win of the season.

The only cloud for Saints on a cold sunny afternoon came in the shape of a nasty injury to Sean Shields who incurred suspected ligament damage to his left ankle.
